Solutions for Clay Mending
Magic Water
Magic Water is used to repair cracks in greenware (unfired clay). It helps mend cracks by bonding the clay back together.
-
Locate the crack. Carefully examine your greenware and identify any cracks that need repair.
Apply Magic Water. Using a brush, apply Magic Water directly into the crack. Try to work it into the gap to fill the opening.
For wider cracks: Apply Magic Water first, followed by clay slip. Make sure the mixture fills the gap as much as possible.
Let it rest. Allow your piece to sit for approximately one hour.
Check the repair. Examine the crack to see if it has closed. If the crack is still visible, apply another layer of Magic Water and allow it to dry.
Repeat as needed. Come back the following day and check the repaired area. Continue applying Magic Water until the crack is no longer visible.
-
Depending on the depth and width of the crack, you may need to repeat this process several times.
Be patient and allow sufficient drying time between applications.
Check your piece regularly to make sure the crack is closing properly.
-
Repairing cracks in greenware takes patience. Several applications may be necessary to achieve a successful repair.
